The Role of Haldane Legal Observers

Haldane legal observers (LOs) monitor the police at protests to ensure respect for the rights of protesters.  Our role is not to provide a second police force to observe protesters.  LOs provide advice to protesters on the ground, handing out "bust cards" detailing the rights of protesters and the responsibilities of the police.  In monitoring the police LOs are able to compile evidence which can later be used in court if protesters are wrongly prosecuted, or wish to bring actions against the police.

On the ground Haldane often works with other legal observing organisations, Green and Black Cross, Legal Defence and Monitoring Group, and the Network for Police Monitoring.
